Chemcats (short for Chemical Catalogs) is essentially a phone book/ordering system for bench chemists to connect with suppliers. It's largest component is a database that hooks into other apps including Sci-FinderN, Formulus, STNext, and legacy software Scifinder on the Web. The product has never had its own interface and has relied on its integrations into our other products. This product presented two problems, the first being that suppliers want to know how well they are doing page-rank style in our software based on various metrics. The second being that users weren't given many ways to interact with suppliers during lookup, and wanted better more accurate information. We aimed to update the service with enhanced info for users and better reporting metrics for suppliers in phase 1 of our approach.
I started working on Chemcats around the time we formed the product hypothesis, and compiled on the information we had on the product at the time. I participated in the Workflow Validation research in collaboration with our researcher, and project manager. I helped define the language of the validation research, that lead to our conclusions about enhanced reporting and expanded contact options.
